True scale dreadnought – the power of the fist…oh dear…
Good morning all! Have made some new additions to this dreadnought namely, the makings of a powerfist and the lower arm, the eye lenses and optics and the plate bits around the shoulders. I will let the images do all the talking here as not a lot to chip in with, I figured that I could get the best of both worlds by having the old school lenses with a more sinister looking eye lens:
And the powerfist was something I was stressing over for a long time, as I wanted move away from the old model in this respect and have something that was a little more like the reaver titan version of the powerfist. Have made this one from brass, plasticard and Green Stuff.
For the wrist sections, cut off some brass tubing and squished it in the vice to give me the shape I wanted. Was lucky that the sides kept much of their curve here. Used some small tin snips to trim up the centre and then put a little shape into it. The extra knuckle guard is just an offcut from a previous atempt!
The interior is made from some plastic tube section and some square sections. Made the fingers from some square brass rod, trimmed off the back, trimmed out some triangle sections and bent the metal to fit. Little filing and done.
It needs some details and the twin linked bolter needs mounting, but getting there!
True scale ‘Rogue Trader’ era dreadnought – to arms!
Actualy, not 2 arms, just the the one, and not even a whole one…oh dear…
Spent some time making the upper arm for the power fist. Made a plan layout from some of the reference images I have and that people have kindly given me.
As you can see, needs a little tidy up as there is some burring on the plastic around the shoulder.
That’s all for now, man it takes me ages to do anything lately!

True scale ‘Rogue Trader’ era dreadnought – progress!
Morning everyone…hello…hmmmm…just me then…ah well, I talk to myself a lot anyway, so why not type to myself too.
So, am pleased to show some progress and the model is coming together nicely. Completed most of the work on the legs, and have now attached them to the main body. Engine block and exhaust done, las cannon completed.
Size wise, he is exactly where I wanted him to finish up. Roughly about x2 the size of a true scale marine.
Things left to do, after this disclosing undercoat, a little filling and cleanup to do. Obviously, the right arm needs doing and the eye lenses. A few little greeblies and the ankles filling in.
I Like!!

True scale ‘Rogue Trader’ era dreadnought – update
Hi all, writing this update during daylight hours so should be a little more featured!
So, what have we got today… first things first, made a test model for the slightly upscaled Rogue Trader type bolter, bear in mind that this is a vehicle mounted variant so a little larger than the man portable version. Not sure I have nailed the look tho… I think it may need to be a little longer and slimmer:
Made a bit of headway on the upper legs here:
Also, sculpted some new feet (well, a foot at least). I had made some new style Mecha type feet, but they didn’t really fit in and the old style ones are so totally unusable as to be cool, that I thought I would go with them instead. I made the master from FIMO. After baking, made a mold from a new recipe that I have found.
Have poured a cast this morning so will see how it turns out later. Will be making 2 feet (weirdly enough) in the resin, and keeping the FIMO master intact. That way, I can always make more mold when this one gets tired.
In other news, bought a new tool of ebay:
It’s for cutting plasticard strip/tube etc. as I am the worst at cutting straight. Have had a little play, but not blowing me away right now. I think it will need a little tweaking to get the best out of it. Was real cheap so I guess you get what you pay for.
Right, that’s all for now. Head over to the Hobby Section for that silicone molding recipe I was talking about…if you want…or not…whatever…

True Scale 8 – A New Hope…
Hi all, so have not touched this subject since January! Time for an update I think.
After looking over on Bolter and Chainsword at some of Doghouse’s new work, and the fact that he was one of the guys that inspired me to do the whole Truescale thing in the first place, he has done it again!
Now this guy is a real whizz with the GS sculpting, and he is making himself a Mk1 Space Marine Dreadnought with the stuff. I can not do that level of sculpting in a million years, so am sticking to more materials that I am used to.
Having a blast of nostalgia like this has really awoken the desire to model again, and have put together the idea of doing much the same thing as he is doing but my take on it.
I will be making one of these bad boys:
Now, I may make some alterations to this design and make it a little more like some of the schematics that were available with a few pratical tweaks, rather than the complete available model. But I will be making it as close to the original as possible, obviousley, in true scale.
So started with what is essentially 2 tubes stuck on top of each other. After looking at the illustrations and comparing it to my truescale efforts, decided that it should be about 80 – 90mm high. After that number was decided on, measured out the rest of the dimensions. This gave me the measurement for the two hemispheres for the shoulder joint area, and I destroyed a roll-on anti persparant to get the ball from that. Perfect size, so after a little cutting and sanding, thiese will be spot on:
From the measurements I took, I needed a top tube of approx. 30mm dia. I had something close but it was some iron tubing and I was damned if I was going to be cutting that off anytime this evening. So, a quick trip to B&Q before closing time yielded a great result, these brass/copper tube connectors and the best part is, they were totally the right width too!
So, using some plasticard, started to build up the central body area. I have wrapped some 0.45mm card around these and glued with 5min epoxy as super glue would have been WAAAAY too frustrating here. Binding it up with elastic bands until the epoxy cured.
And well, apart from the planning and measuring aspect, that’s all I got done last night… Took a scale shot here for comparison:
I wanted him to be a big imposing figure on the battlefield as I think the regular dreadnought models are way too small even not in truescale. I will be doing my other more traditional dreadnought, but again will be much bigger than the standard kit one.
As usual, thanks for looking all!
