Thunder Child pt.10

OK, so I was wrong. I haven’t lost any impetus on this project as for some reason, I sat down last night and rebuilt the roof sections and I have to say, I am happy with it!

I think that at certain stages in models, it’s fair to say that I get a little jaded with them and other models inspire me. Kind of a way to offset the frustration i guess by looking at something else to take your mind off it.

Anyway, I will of course post some pics as soon as I get back this evening.

Finally got some pics sorted!

Needs a little tidy up, but is better than the first effort!

Thunder Child pt.9

Hi all, have made the top section of the turret system to box it off and have decided that I am not happy with it so will be remaking at some point. I will post some images as soon as I have them for you.

I have decided to postpone any further work on this project for the time being, as I am not feeling 100% behind it and my attention has wandered a little, so to do the model justice, I will work on something else until my inspiration comes back for this one.

Keep watching.

Thunder Child pt.8

Hi all, figured it was time to put some work into this build as it has been a little lacking in progress so far.

I think it was the track issue that threw me off this project as well as the fact that I can’t quite decide what main weapon loadout I am going for. I know that I will be using the ‘turret’ version of the tank, but not the weapons.

Anyway, I finally put the track pieces into sections:

Easy enough to build up, just lay them flat, grab the sections with your tweezers and dip the sections into some glue, press and move onto the next. A little dull process, but is soon done.

Next up were the sponsons, I did up a template in Illustrator cs2 as I wanted some perfect angles and I couldn’t trust my line work even with a square! Transfered the paper to the plasticard and trimmed out the main shape. After that, I cut along the top and bottom long section of the interior cut as I was going to retain this section to form the insides of the sponson. I scored the front of the small vertical cuts and carefully pushed them back inside.

After that, fix on a base piece to hold the ‘flaps’ in position and cut some tube section to form the gun housing. I tried cutting a section out of this as per the FW model, but I was in a rush and pretty much ballsed it up, so may redo later.

Next, onto the main turret housing. Again, I made some templates in Illustrator and printed out onto some card and from this, made a mock up of what I wanted and then again, transferred to the plastic. I cut out and glued down to the model but then realised that I had gone wrong!

The turret housing is different to the bolter version housing as it’s asymetrical and I was working off that model. So after going back to the drawing board and some more card versions, I ended up with this:

As always, thanks for looking!

Thunder Child pt.7

A few things to cover in this post, first up, have cut off the sprue all of my track sections:

Now the problem with these guys (apart from glueing them all individually) is that they seem to be very fragile on the sprue. When I was trying to cut them with my GW cutters, it snapped the track sections . Weirdly, did the same when trying to use a scalpel too . Continue reading

Well got back to my camera but damn if it isn’t too hot here to move right now!

Thunder Child pt.5

I think ultimately, and the ultrawerke site sums it up for me, is that I see this tank as a classic WW1 monster. The tracks are something that can help with that look as well, it’s a tank after all and they feature fairly prominently. Continue reading

Hi all, not a lot to show today as I have been busy with other stuff. Continue reading

Thunder Child pt.3

Hi all, well have been looking at the track situation and I have now decided to do my own. Was bored in work today, so downloaded google sketchup and made a mock up of the track section that I have a chance of making from plasticard and replicating. Continue reading

Thunder Child pt.2

Have made some slow progress (images soon, no camera this evening sorry). Have made the track/drive sections. The hull is boxed out too, I had to re-do my plans for this as the top section was a little off. Continue reading

Thunder Child pt.1

Hi all, my project has gotten underway this weekend whilst my wife is away in Barcelona. Have liked this tank for a while as it represents a little quirky side note in the echelons of the imperial armoury. Continue reading
