So, a little GS on the crew last night… I don’t know about them to be frank. At theis stage a feel like I am rushing them a little and that they are merely stop gaps and that’s not a fair way to treat this project. But hey, it has all been a learning curve for me. Mostly about deadlines and the fact that I am a slow worker! Continue reading

Morning all! Have made a bit of progress on the crew and some of the details for the rest of the scene last night.

I bought some battle field accessories from GW, reasonable price for what you get and I wanted to save some time here so was more expedient to buy rather than make. I would prefer to make my own, but hey, there you go. I have only just realised that the scale is WAAAY off on these, despite being a GW item. I know they make hero scale everything, but these seem only an Astartes could lift them! Continue reading

So as promised, a quick sketch of what I planning for my crew. I want them all with no helmets, so ignore the head on this guy. The gunnery officer may have a hat, but not sure yet.

I have trimmed away a few bits and pieces as I want them to be a little different. The legs have been cut and new lengths of wire have been added. these are a much more realistic length in my mind than the regular Cadian models, so a simple conversion here.

Cadian type Gunner

The arms will have the shoulder pads removed and an overcoat type short sleeve added on top of the existing sleeve. The smock, I wanted to be more like a tabbard type long tailed coat design, if that makes any sense at all…

The trouser pockets I will either take off, or make a little more rounded and supple. The area created by removing the Cadian coat around the front of the fatigues, will be more in the style of briches(sp?).

So a little bit to model in there but not a huge amount!

Ok, so, panic time is insideously creeping up on me and scratching at the back of my mind. The deadline is looming and I have a long way to go on this build.

The quad cannon is done, put some icons on it last night, so happy with that part. The next aspect that has given me a headache is the crew…

I have put the base, the thudd gun and the minis I WAS going to use, all together. And I think that I have messed up on the scale of the cannon in comparison to the crew. Now, I knew that these guys were a slighter build than the regulars but thought it was going to be cool. Guess not.

So, with the deadline looming, what to do… The only other minis that I have to hand are some cadians but to be honest, not mad keen on them at all. So, I have decided to do some converting on them, but not enough to be a problem as this is time critical at this stage.

I have a test mini that I mocked up last night but never got any pics, so will sort them out later. I think I should be able to get them ready for the deadline, not 100% sure about them being painted tho!

So a double post here, wanted to seperate out these two elements as this is about the base for this entry.

I bought a couple of pre-cut round wood sections from Hobbycraft, that were a great find, I bought 2 as they were a.cheap and b.the exact right size and c.I wanted a spare in case I blew it!

I bought some FIMO modelling putty(?) a while back for another project, I think it’s just a Polymer Clay that is similar to Sculpey and a bunch of other brands. The type you cook in the oven to harden it. Continue reading

So, I had some time off work for a little holiday and made a heap of progress on the cannon. I didn’t manage to take any wip shots as I was just striking for the finish line! Continue reading

Hi all, well after a rather rubbish attempt at the carriage for this quad cannon, I have decided to go back to the drawing board. I was never really that pleased with the carriage I was considering and without me being 100% behind it, was not giving it my full attention.

So with that in mind, I hit the web and had a look around for what may fit. I found a few things, but my main inspiration came from forgeworld and the earthshaker chassis. I opened up sketchup and tried a few ideas. Now this was more like it!

Hi all, me again. Made some progress tonight as I have scared myself thinking about the deadline and how much I have to get through in order for this to work!

I was making the mounting plates as described in my last post, and after releasing them from their brass mounting rods, they pretty much have a life of their own in terms of trying to line these guys up. Continue reading

So have not had a chance to do too much on this model over the weekend, and am now getting a little anxious about the deadline as we are currently into August and the closing date is the end of this month. I still have a LOOOOOOOONG way to go on this dio.

Still, complaining about it here won’t help so here we go. Continue reading
