Happy Hallowe’en!

OK, so not really anything to do with modelling per se. Every year for the past several, I have taken great pleasure in carving a pumpkin or two for this season. I like it, and as around my way, we don’t see a lot of  Hallowe’en type goings on, I thought I would have to make the effort.

Now, in work right  now, we are having one of our annual pumpkin carving competitions, so hey, two birds as they say. Not going for the all out win this year, something real simple that my little boy can enjoy*!

*is that the right word for a scary monster face, can you say ‘enjoy’…?

So enjoy!

Sister Superior – 10

Hi all, me again. So time for an update on the Sister Superior build. And today, I bring you, TA DA, the gorget!

Not impressed huh? Oh well, I am. This has been one of those areas of the build that has been lurking in the back of my mind as something that I wanted to get right and something that I didn’t really know what I was going to do to get there.

I was looking at using some plasticard, and making the shape from that, but that wouldn’t give me the ‘wall’ thickness that I was after, so then was going to use some plastic tubing that I had to hand, but then that wouldn’t give me the peaked part to the front…hmmm Continue reading

Sister Superior – 9

Hi all, not a huge amount to update today. Just really a sketch out of where I am going with this. More for me to have something to work toward than a finished piece of artwork, so if you can’t make any sense out of these scribblings, then don’t worry, I think I can…

Hoping to do some more work on this tonight and make some more real progress, so will post more tomorrow!

Sister Superior – 8

Hi everyone!

So, after deliberating whether or not to have fabric or plate for the bodice area, I settled on the fabric version. I thought it would add a little texture in there and also some visual interest. So, made something like this:

Corset 1Corset 2

So, what you think? Was done using the fimo clay as I really like working with this clay because it handles well, takes a lot of detail that stays put (not like GS), you can get good edges on there straight away (not like GS), it’s not overly sticky (like GS) and if you make a slip up, it’s really forgiving without trashing the whole thing…(not like GS).

The only touchy point about this was the fact that Millput only has a heat tolerance up to 120C and the fimo recommends that temp to cure, so I set it about 100-110C and cooked for a touch longer, seems to have worked so far…

I have sketched out my designs for the shoulder pads and the decorative armour plates, so will be moving onto those next.

Thanks for looking!
