Sister Superior – 10

Hi all, me again. So time for an update on the Sister Superior build. And today, I bring you, TA DA, the gorget!

Not impressed huh? Oh well, I am. This has been one of those areas of the build that has been lurking in the back of my mind as something that I wanted to get right and something that I didn’t really know what I was going to do to get there.

I was looking at using some plasticard, and making the shape from that, but that wouldn’t give me the ‘wall’ thickness that I was after, so then was going to use some plastic tubing that I had to hand, but then that wouldn’t give me the peaked part to the front…hmmm

So, I used a mixture of various methods. I took the piece of tube I had after deciding that it was a little too large in diameter (looked a little like a whiplash claimant when she was wearing it!), then using some milliput, made a nice flat smooth sheet to the thickness I wanted, and wrapped it around the inside of the tubing.

Left that overnight to set, and then next day, popped it out of the tube (covered it all in talc to stop it sticking) and then set about cutting and sanding to the shape I needed.

I think it has turned out OK, needs some detail like rivets, maybe an Aquila at the front, and I wanted to make some interior details like the retaining maglock rim around the inside and something like a vox unit at the front, but I like the basics here.

I also managed to test my theory on how I was going to make the raised ‘flange’ around the rim of the armour plates, just work in a thin worm of milliput and then roughly shape, then sand flush later. I may try the GS/MP mix, but am not sure of its sanding qualities yet.

As requested, here is a shot of the rear of the corset, some areas need a little cleaning up and some filler work, but I can come back to these areas.

So, that’s all I have right now. Tonight I will be trying to get the backs of the knees done with some GS and then working out what to do about the shoulder padding.

Thanks for looking all!
