Anakins Ship – A Diversion…

So, not strictly a 40K model this one, and I don’t even intend to do any hardcore converting on this model. Just a simple build up and a painting exercise really. Wanted to test out a few techniques that I have read about and thought this may the model to try them on.

So, the box says it all really, easy kit, just what I was after! Out of the box is ready to build and is a snap together model, so no glueing needed, but I will. I am not going to paint this as suggested on the box art, will select something else for the paint scheme as I hate Anakin (Do not get me started on those movies…)

Not too much by way of mould lines really, a nice kit. The Anakin figure included leaves a lot to be desired however…

I started with the cockpit area, as I wanted to add a little more detail and greeblies to this. So I started by removing various bits and shaving down the cast on parts where I was to replace with something else. Haven’t gone crazy here as I kept the fact that it was to paint rather than go all out modelling wise.

After a little clean up here and there, onto the paint. Undercoated with Tamiya and then pre shaded with GW Charnadon Granite. My airbrush SUCKS! It’s a little bit of both, the mini compressor I have and the fact that it cuts out and that the Granite colour needed a lot of finessing to get throught the AB. I may have to invest in a new one at some point.

After this part, went on to lay down the first colour. A mix of deck tan and on off white colour as I have the idea that it should look a little like a tank interior in there. Don’t know why, just appeals…

So, once that dries I put down a layer of Satin Varnish. Once dry (I am sure that you should leave it longer than this, but I am very impatient with this stuff…), I put some tap water throught the AB and wet a test area.

I am trying the salt masking technique here, so  a voyage of discovery! I have a real cheap £1 store salt mill that delivers from course to small grains and everything in between. So should get a nice variation in size. I left this overnight to dry out, then I will cover in a lighter/whiter shade of the base colour and the chip away!
